Just ran my NEW HP laptop through Probe ID (ED7BF5AEE1) and found out how many drivers were not installed working or installed at all!  In particular I  have been struggling with the WIFI adapter which is a Realtek RTL8852be. Interestingly I have been struggling with this issue for several days and still can not get it to work....then I find out you need at least kernel 6.2  Ok I have no idea which kernel I have installed all I know is that I am running Debian 12 which I like so far.  So I spent the last couple of days researching how to load the driver only to find out that what I dont have the correct kernel.. Maybe I missed that when I loaded Debian 12 I dont know. ALso after looking at the print out for Probe ID program I find many things that are not working correctly or have drivers missing including the solid state storage that the main volume is mounted on.

In any event how do I know what kernel is in Bookworm?  and how can I configure the wifi if I do have the correct kernel (that is what the output of Probe says... may not be configured)  Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. I am not new to linux but have not used it for 15 or so years so I need to do a lot of learning yet..

You can find out which kernel you have by the command (in a terminal): uname -a, or just uname -r to get the kernel release. The official kernel is 6.1.*. You can also check the boot log. dmesg or journalctl -b. To get kernel 6.2 you need to use your package manager and install from "backports". Debian has up to 6.4 in its backports at the moment. I don't use Debian so I can't give you the details but go to https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/ to read how to. Or some Debian forum/mailing list to get more help.
